NEW MEDICARE CARDS: The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid will begin issuing new Medicare cards in April. Social Security numbers will be replaced on the cards with a random combination of 11 numbers and letters.

To protect against scams, clients should remember they will not receive a phone call from Medicare, and Medicare will not ask for a person’s Medicare number or bank information over the phone.

Callers demanding Medicare card payments or threatening to cancel health care benefits if personal information or money is not provided are running scams, according to the organization. Scams can be reported to the Federal Trade Commission by calling 1-877-382-4257
