Fri. 10:36 a.m.: Hoerig sentenced to 28 years in murder
WARREN – Convicted killer Claudia Hoerig will serve at least the next 28 years in prison.
Trumbull Common Pleas Judge Andrew Logan pronounced sentencing just moments ago in the case involving the Brazilian native who gunned down her husband Karl Hoerig more than 10 years ago inside the couple’s Newton Falls home.
Hoerig’s sentencing of 28 years to life in prison followed the recommendation of Trumbull County prosecutors and was based on promises prosecutors made to Brazilian officials in order to secure her extradition to the United States to stand trial. Hoerig, 54, had fled to her native country following Karl Hoerig’s shooting death in 2007.
Hoerig appeared for her sentencing clad in orange jail coveralls, and smiled as she entered the courtroom.
She has already stated that she will file an appeal.
