Sun. 9:45 a.m.: Girard officer killed on duty is identified
GIRARD – Girard police Officer Justin Leo, 31, has been identified as the officer who died in the line of duty late Saturday night, sources have confirmed.
Leo and another officer were responding to a call for a suicidal male at 408 Indiana Ave. after 10 p.m. When police arrived, a man inside the home opened fire, striking Leo. The second officer, who has not yet been identified, returned fire killing the suspect.
The man inside the home also has not yet been identified by police.
Leo was transported to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, where he later died.
