Boys basketball


¯ COACH: Joshua Upshire; first year.

¯ LAST YEAR: 6-17; lost to John F. Kennedy, 68-48, in a Division IV Grand Valley District sectional semifinal.

¯ LEAGUE: Northeastern Athletic Conference Stars Division.

¯ RETURNING LETTERMEN: Juniors Bobby Myres* and Logan Popovich*; sophomores Jacob Eucker and Aiden Miller.

¯ NEWCOMERS: Junior Isaac Csiky; sophomores Keith Barto, Brad Blaney, Curtis Houser, Travis Webber; freshman Logan Lendak.

¯ SEASON OUTLOOK: The Braves return four lettermen, including juniors Logan Popovich and Bobby Myres. Two sophomores, Aiden Miller and Jacob Eucker, will also return to a Badger team that inherits a new coach in Joshua Upshire. Several newcomers are led by four sophomores, which include Brad Blaney and Curtis Houser.



¯ COACH: Matt Zakrajsek; third year (3-11).

¯ LAST YEAR: 1-6.

¯ LEAGUE: All-American Conference Red Tier.

¯ RETURNING LETTERMEN: Seniors Shawn Carr***, Chuck Heckman***, Isom Julian***, Geshuaan Matlock***, Bradon Matlock**, Alexander Smith**, Chris Julian*, Chris Kowach*, Isiah Lyles*

¯ NEWCOMERS: Jack Brogan and Ray Kaso.

¯ SEASON OUTLOOK: Third-year coach Matt Zakrajsek expects this year’s Tiger squad to improve as a dual meet team and become physically stronger, as well. Thankfully for Zakrajsek, his Tigers return nine letterwinners, including four, three-year lettermen. Leading the way are district qualifiers Geshuaan Matlock and Isom Julian, to go along with Chuck Heckman and Shawn Carr. Expect contributions from newcomers Jack Brogan and Ray Kaso.

¯ LAST YEAR: 14-1.

¯ LEAGUE: All-American Conference Red Tier.

¯ RETURNING LETTERMEN: Seniors Andrew Fairbanks***, Ian Kotch**, Eddie Magmore**, Marco Parry**, Kyle Varga** and Josh Kitchen*; juniors Michael Ferree** and Andrew Stehura**; sophomores Christian Davis*, Hunter Helminiak* and Gus Sutton*

¯ NEWCOMERS: Senior Adam Wilps; juniors Willie Beverly and Breylon Douglas; sophomore Brock Kimble; freshmen Dom Miglets and Zach Richards.

¯ SEASON OUTLOOK: The Falcons will return 11 lettermen, including five with over 20 wins last season. The Falcons went 14-1 last year, and will feature about 45 wrestlers on their roster this year. Leading the way is senior Andrew Fairbanks, a three-year letterman who was a state qualifier last year. He went 39-12 a year ago, and he’ll be joined by sophomore Gus Sutton (32 wins), junior Michael Ferree (35 wins) and senior Kyle Varga (24 wins). Newcomers include freshmen Zach Richards and Dom Miglets.

¯ COACH: Anthony Bernard; fifth year (62-34).

¯ LAST YEAR: 14-4 (4-4 in AAC Red Tier).

¯ LEAGUE: All-American Conference Red Tier.

¯ RETURNING LETTERMEN: Seniors Maggie Carpenter, Cassie Murcko and Jordyn Pregibon; juniors Jessica Guesman and Holly Sparklin.

¯ NEWCOMERS: Sophomores Justine Bailes and Danni Harigan.

¯ SEASON OUTLOOK: The Tigers return all five starters from last year’s 14-win squad. Three seniors, Maggie Carpenter, Cassie Murcko and Jordyn Pregibon, are joined by juniors Jessica Guesman and Holly Sparklin. Newcomers include sophomores Danni Harigan and Justine Bailes.
