Juried student show opens at McDonough

The 78th Juried Student Art & Design Exhibition opens Friday at the McDonough Museum of Art.

Juror for this year’s show is Dan Byers, the Richard Armstrong Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh. Byers is co-curator, with Daniel Baumann and Tina Kukielski, of the 2013 Carnegie International. His recent projects at the museum include solo exhibitions of Cathy Wilkes, Ragnar Kjartansson and James Lee Byars, as well as several group exhibitions.

Before joining the staff at the Carnegie, Byers was curatorial fellow at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis and assistant to the directors at the Fabric Workshop and Museum in Philadelphia.

The artists will be honored at an opening reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the McDonough, 411 Wick Ave., Youngstown.

Awards presented at 7 p.m. during the opening reception range from cash awards to gift certificates donated by local businesses and individuals who support the exhibition. Award categories include photography, painting, sculpture, digital media, graphic design, interactive design and packaging.

The work will be on display through April 11. Admission to the reception and the exhibition is free. For more information, call 330-941-1400.
