Fifty years on stage

University Theater at Youngstown State University will mark its 50th anniversary with a revue opening Friday.

“Celebrating 50 Years of University Theater: A Musical Commemoration” started as a senior project by four students – Rebecca Anderson of Cortland, John Cruz of Mineral Ridge, Kelly Sullivan of Youngstown and Joseph Alvey of Parma.

They compiled a list of more than 200 shows produced by University Theater over the past 50 years and then went about assembling a production that represented the full spectrum while providing an appropriate amount of solo and group numbers.

Directed by musical theater instructor Nancy Andersen Wolfgang, the finished product is 34 scenes and songs that have been carefully selected to present the best of what the YSU Department of Theater and Dance has produced over the last 50 years.

The revue will feature songs and / or scenes from “West Side Story,” “Chicago,” “The Fantasticks,” “Carousel,” “Rent,” “Into the Woods,” “Guys and Dolls,” “Kiss Me, Kate,” “The Rainmaker” and “A Doll’s House,” among others.

The cast includes Connor Bezeredi, Justin Brown, Katelyn Deladurantey, Rebecca Enlow, Michael Free, Anthony Humphrey, Katie Jerome, Nikita Jones, Matt Malloy, Carly Magnuson, Zara Markman, Natalie Martzial, Emily Shipley, Eric Shonk, Taghaboni and Cruz, Sullivan and Alvey.

They will be accompanied by Cory Davis, piano / conductor; Dan Kalosky, bass; and Troy Schaltenbrand, percussion.
