Clara Lauritsen Shea and Christopher William Totten were united in marriage during a wedding ceremony held Sept. 15, 2012, at Western Presbyterian Church in Washington, D.C. The Rev. Carol Howard Merritt officiated.
A reception was held following the ceremony at the L’Enfant Plaza Hotel in Washington, D.C.
The bride is the daughter of Beverly Stiles Shea and the late Russell Edward Shea of Ashland, Va. Parents of the groom are K. William and Cynthia L. Totten of Warren.
Eleanor Shea attended her sister as the maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Grace Fetty, Judith Barr, Anne Marie Flood, Annie Lewine, Kristin Lipinoga and Meghan Crossin. Helena and Giuliana Bart, cousins of the groom, were flower girls.
Performing the duties of the best man was the groom’s friend, Brian Gilson. Groomsmen were Maxfield Shea, brother of the bride, Brian Belcik and Tim Totten, cousins of the groom, Greg Thibault, Chris Rose, and Daniel McEwan. Matthias Bart, cousin of the groom, was the ring bearer.
A 2005 graduate of the Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School for Government and International Studies, the new Mrs. Totten received her undergraduate degree in international affairs from the George Washington University. She earned her graduate degree in Arabic from Georgetown University, is employed as a language analyst, and is a freelance editor.
A 2003 graduate of John F. Kennedy High School, Mr. Totten received both his undergraduate and graduate degrees in architecture from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. He is an assistant professor of game design at George Mason University and a published design author.
The couple resides in Fairfax, Va.
