Small Ships sail Friday

The 33rd Small Ships Revue sets sail on the Shenango River in downtown Sharon, Pa., on Friday.

The build-your-own-boat / anything-that-floats regatta awards prizes for the top three finishers as well as in such categories as ”most unique” and ”most patriotic” with a panel of local celebrities doing the judging. More than $5,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded, including $1,000 for first place.

A pre-party starts at 4 p.m. Friday at Quaker Steak & Lube, 101 Chestnut St., the pre-launch parade steps off at 6 p.m., and the launch time is 7 p.m. Following the race will be live entertainments with Graphic Pink and Pipedreams at 8 p.m., and a fireworks display by Zambelli Fireworks is set for 10:15 p.m.

Festivities continue on Saturday with the Quaker Steak & Lube Fake Fest starting at 5 p.m. with performances by Randy Velez (billed as the man of 1,000 voices), the Kiss tribute band Mr. Speed, the Ozzy Osbourne tribute act Little Ozzy (seen on ”America’s Got Talent”) and headliner Cowboy, a Kid Rock tribute act.

Admission to both events is free.
