Mr. and Mrs. Lynn D. Barnes celebrated their 50th anniversary on April 27, 2013, with a surprise party given by their children and friends, Jim and Ben, at the Cortland Opera House.
They also celebrated by renewing their wedding vows during the Diocesan Wedding Celebration Mass on June 2 at St. Columba Church in Youngstown.
Mr. Barnes and the former Maxine Marie Mamott were married April 27, 1963, by the Rev. Joseph Jerge in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Oil City, Pa.
Lynn served in the U.S. Air Force after graduating from high school. He then received an associate degree from Alliance College, Cambridge Springs, Pa. He is a retired draftsman and spends his time golfing and working on old trucks. He is also a member of the Antique Automobile Club of America.
Maxine has worked at various part-time jobs, but her favorite was raising four children. She is a member of the Trumbull County Herb Society and the St. Robert’s Quilters Club in Cortland.
The couple have four children, Douglas of Austell, Ga., Walter (Celeste) of Warren, Matthew of Youngstown and Kelly of Niles. They also have two grandsons.
