Vic Players premiere thriller
The Victorian Players will present the world premier of “Below the Surface,” a new work by Canton playwright Craig R. May.
Set in the 1950s, “Surface” takes place in the upscale home of Clarissa. Her friend Richard arrives to let her know that some of her poems will be published in a new periodical, Dunthope Square. But the celebration ends with the arrival of Clarissa’s parents and her sickly sister, Lydia.
Dark family secrets emerge, which explain the dark nature of Clarissa’s poetry. Personalities collide as Richard’s presence in the house is not welcomed by Clarissa’s parents. But the worst is yet to come when a murder takes place and we see the true nature of this dysfunctional family.
J.E. Ballantyne Jr. directs a cast featuring Tom Kusiowski, Dawnelle Jewell, C. Richard Haldi, Linda McGrath Brandy Hughes and Ryan Newell.
“Below the Surface” was presented as a staged reading several years ago, but the Victorian run is the first fully staged production of the play.
“Below the Surface” will be staged at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday through April 21. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students and senior citizens.
