Animator Bill Plympton to give ’toon workshop
Oscar-nominated animator Bill Plympton will be in Pittsburgh this weekend for events at Point Park University and ToonSeum.
Plympton has produced nine animated features in his career and multiple animated shorts, two of which have been nominated for Academy Awards. He has produced commercials for such clients as Trivial Pursuit, Nutrasweet, Taco Bell, AT&T, Nike, Geico, United Airlines and Mercedes-Benz.
His work appeared frequently on MTV and such short films as “One of Those Days,” “How to Kiss,” “25 Ways to Quit Smoking” and “Plymptoons” were popular film festival attractions.
Plympton will attend an opening reception at 6 p.m. Friday at Toonseum, 945 Liberty Ave., Pittsburgh, for the exhibition “The Art of Bill Plympton.” Following the reception will be a screening of some of Plympton’s films at Point Park University at 8 p.m. Friday.
Plympton also will teach a master class on animation at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Point Park University. The workshops will examine Bill’s career and techniques. All attendees of the workshop will receive a hand-drawn sketch from Mr. Plympton.
Tickets for the reception and screening Friday are $10, and screening-only tickets are $5. The cost of the master class is $25 for adults and $15 for students and Toonseum members. Tickets are available online at plympton.eventbrite.com. For more information, call 412-232-0199.
