McDonough, SMARTS are glad for Mad
Mad About the Arts returns for its 17th edition on Feb. 22 at the McDonough Museum of Art.
The annual fundraiser benefits both the McDonough and YSU SMARTS (Students Motivated by the ARTS), and the two organizations split more than $25,000 from last year’s event.
The main event runs from 7:30 to 10 p.m. and features music by Second Avenue Project, which includes graduates from the Dana School of Music. The group will perform a classic mix of jazz standards, ballads and upbeat dance music.
Hors d’oeuvres, wines and microbrews will be available provided by Cassese’s MVR, Cafe Cimmento Italian Food and Wines, Chalet Premier, Enjoy Youngstown, Giannios Candy, Kravitz Delicatessen, The Lemon Grove Cafe, Markko Vineyard, Mastropietro Winery, The Mocha House, O’Donold’s Irish Pub and Grill, Thirsty Dog Brewing Company and Yolo Grille and Wine Bar.
On display during this event will be the 2013 MAPC Juried Members Exhibition at the McDonough, 411 Wick Ave., Youngstown. The Mid America Print Council is an educational organization whose goal is to promote awareness and appreciation of the art of printmaking. The exhibition will feature works selected by Juror, Anita Jung, from the University of Iowa.
Before the main event will be a Friend of the Arts Preview Reception starting at 6:30 p.m. Those attending the preview will enjoy music by Alexis Antes, gourmet appetizers by the Lemon Grove Cafe and sparkling wines from Chalet Premier, and they will receive a keepsake Mad About the Arts wine glass.
Tickets are $50 for the main event and $80 with the Friends of the Arts Preview Reception. Mad About the Arts is underwritten by the Charles and Alice Schmutz Charitable Foundation with Albert and Suzanne Cinelli as its legacy sponsor.
Tickets are available by calling SMARTS at 330-941-2787 and can be purchased at www.ysu.edu/givetoysu.
