34west starts with whodunit

34west Theater Company’s will open its 2013 season with the whodunit comedy “Mystery Goes Hollywood.”

In the interactive production, Detective Perry Columbus, played by Stephen Wayne, tries to solve a murder on the night of the Academy Awards.

Performances are scheduled Friday, Saturday and Feb. 14-16 at Das Dutch Village Inn, 150 E. State Route 14, Columbiana. Tickets for the dinner-theater productions are $45 for evening shows and $40 for matinees and can be ordered by calling 866-482-5050. It is the first of four shows 34west plans to do in the coming year.

“Our entire season is made up of brand new comedies,” according to 34west Artistic Director Jeff Querin. “Sketch comedies like ‘Saturday Night Live’ or Carol Burnett. We hope folks leave happy and aching from laughing so much.”

“Sock Hops and Soda Pops” is billed as a feel-good musical from the creators of “Doo Wops and Beauty Shops,” which 34west staged last season. Performance dates are March 20-23, April 17-20 and May 1-4.

The songs of George and Ira Gershwin, Cole Porter and other Great American Songbook composers will be included in the musical “Speakin’ Easy,” which will be staged July 31-Aug. 3, Sept. 18-21 and Oct. 23-26.

And the Nutmeg Twins from past holiday productions will return for “Jimmy D’s Holly Jolly Christmas, which Querin describes as “‘Hee-Haw’ meets ‘White Christmas.'” It will run Nov. 29 through Dec. 22.
