The wait is over; football is finally here

It’s hard to believe that at this time next week, you’ll be sitting and reading your Tribune Chronicle after three days of football. High school football and Youngstown State University kick off the season on Thursday, and Ohio State takes the field Saturday to try to continue its winning streak to 13 games as it takes on Buffalo.

After months of anticipation – football season is officially here.

While this is the most exciting time of the year for many sports fans in the Mahoning Valley, this season the Tribune Chronicle is going to make sure that no matter what way you like to receive your football news, it’s going to be there for you.

If you’re a fan of Twitter, the Tribune Sports Department is all over the Twitter world. You can follow us @TribChronSports and on Friday nights get scores as we get them throughout the night. Also, if you’re at a game and want us to know what’s going on, shoot a tweet at us. We always like to hear from everyone around the area.

When it comes to collegiate and professional football, we are all over that as well. For your up-to-the-minute, game-day news for Youngstown State football, make sure you follow beat writer Joe Simon @APstylz. For Browns news during the game and during the week, follow Mike McLain @MichaelMcLain2, and for Ohio State game-day action, follow me @DanaSulonenTrib.

And while we can’t be at every game, we know there’s always something exciting going on that is photo worthy. So, to share the sights with us, we have created a Tribune Sports Instagram account, TribChronSports. Follow us to see pictures from where we are at around town and tag us in your pics – maybe they will show up in the Tribune Chronicle as a “Fan Pic of the Week.”

When it comes to Saturday morning, and everyone wanting to know what happened at games around the Valley, remember to log on to our high school football-only website,, for all of the scores and stories from Friday night. And it’s not just stories and scores at Under The Lights, you can see our Band of the Week, Audio of the Week and see how we faired in our Fearless Football Forecast.

Speaking of the Fearless Football Forecast, you are reading the words of the defending champion.

As I try to defend my title this year, I also will take on any challenges from readers in the weekly UPickEm contest. If you go to the Under The Lights web page, click on UPickEm, you can register, or if you’ve played in the past you can use the same log in you have before. There you can pick the weekly high school, college and professional games. If you win the week, you will win a free one topping pizza and a $10 gas card. You also can see how your fair against the experts here at the Tribune.

So whether you like to read your paper online, through social media, or just your regular newspaper, we will have you covered all season long.
