Something for everyone, even a princess, at Eastwood Field

Like any little girl, growing up I wanted to be a princess. Specifically, Aerial from “The Little Mermaid.” But if you ask my mother or anyone that has met me for more than a few hours, you’ll know that I still have dreams of being a princess and singing “Part of Your World” on a rock next to an ocean.

While I realize this dream is one of fantasy, it doesn’t mean that I, or any other girl of any age, can’t be a princess, even for one day.

On July 14, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers take on the Vermont Lake Monsters for a 6 p.m. showdown. But along with the game, it is “Princess Night” at Eastwood Field. The promotion calls for fans to bring their favorite little princess to the park – of course dressed like their favorite princess. Any little princess who dresses up can take part in a “Princess Parade” prior to the game and a special Daddy/Daughter ticket package is available for purchase.

For any father out there who has a daughter that would rather be a princess for a day than get dirty on the ball field, this is the perfect way to introduce her to a game that has spanned the test of time. Or if you have a daughter like I was under the age of 10 – who wanted to be a princess while getting dirty – then this is the best way to spend an evening. Or if you’re a 30-something sports writer that still dreams of being a princess, this is your chance to live that dream. I’m only half kidding on that last note.

But, if dressing up like a princess isn’t your thing, it doesn’t mean the Scrappers don’t have plenty of other promotions that make for a fun night at the ballpark this season.

BOBBLE HEAD MANIA: Because this year is the 15th anniversary of the Scrappers, the organization is having four bobblehead giveaways this season. The first one will take place this Saturday as it is Victor Martinez bobblehead night. The other three night will feature bobbleheads of Francisco Lindor, Vinnie Pestano and of course Scrappy and Captain McFinn.

BUCK NIGHTS: In what has become an institution in the Mahoning Valley over the past few years, there are five more Thursday night Buck Nights this season. If anyone somehow still doesn’t know, Buck Night means $1 general admission tickets, $1 hot dogs and $1 beverages. If you’re looking for a fun night out on a budget, you can’t go wrong on a Thursday at Eastwood Field.

QUARTER HOT DOG NIGHT: Buck Night still too rich for your blood? Then come out to Eastwood Field on Aug. 21 for Quarter Hot Dog Night. That’s right, hot dogs for a quarter. I know a few people that will make the Scrappers regret ever deciding to have this as a promotion.

I hope the crew at Eastwood Field has stocked up on ketchup and stadium mustard, because this could be a promotion for the record books.

I also hope they are ready for me in an Aerial costume a week from today. Again, I’m only half joking.
