YSU’s Calhoun to speak at fame induction

Youngstown State men’s basketball coach Jerrod Calhoun will be the guest speaker at the 16th annual Trumbull County Sports Hall of Fame induction banquet Oct. 21 at Divieste Banquet Center on North River Road in Warren.

Inductees include:

— Bill Beasom, longtime wrestling coach at Howland after an All-American wrestling career at Cuyahoga Community College.

— Bill Burke, Howland quarterback who went on to break several passing records at Michigan State.

— Carl Diggs, Warren G. Harding athlete who was an All-American linebacker at Michigan.

— Bobby Hughes (deceased), boxer from Braceville who had a 73-39 record as a light heavyweight.

— Jeff Hundley, Howland pitcher who was Mid-American Conference pitcher of the year at Bowling Green.

— Michelle Kriebel, Howland high school track and field star.

— John Krok, All-state lineman at Niles and three-year letterman at Syracuse.

— Emil “Butch” Perunko (deceased), Warren athlete who pitched for Kent State and in the minor leagues for the Reds.

— Andy Saxson, longtime girls basketball coach at Girard.

— Stephen Telego, football player at John F. Kennedy who later played at Mercyhurst College.

— Bill Triplett, Girard athlete who played in the NFL with the Giants, Lions and Cardinals.

— Cheryl Weaver, longtime Champion softball coach whose teams have won five state championships.

A buffet dinner will be served at 2 p.m., following a social hour at 1 which will include a cash bar. Tickets are $30 each ($20 for children) and corporate tables are $210 (eight seats).
