Scrappers drop 2nd in row at Staten Island

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Eric Wagaman’s one-out line drive to center field scored the game winner in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Staten Island past Mahoning Valley Thursday, 4-2.

With Wagaman batting, Scrappers reliever Jordan Scheftz threw a wild pitch as Andres Chaparro scored to tie the game at 2.

Ricardo Ferreria scored on a balk in the bottom of the eighth to make it 4-2 for Staten Island (13-13).

Mahoning Valley (16-9) scored two in the top of the fifth inning as Tre Gantt’s fielder’s choice drove in Henry Pujols, who tripled to start the inning. Richard Palacios’ double drove in Gantt as the Scrappers took a 2-1 lead.

Zach Draper (1-3) pitched six innings and took the loss for Mahoning Valley, which left nine runners on base.
