Mahoning Valley beaten on the road
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Junior Soto was 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs to lead Staten Island over Mahoning Valley, 5-1, Wednesday in their New York-Penn League game.
Soto launched a one-out solo home run to left field in the bottom of the seventh inning, and came back with a three-run shot in the bottom of the eighth, to left field again, breaking a 1-1 tie.
Richard Palcios’ solo homer to left field in the top of the sixth inning was the Scrappers only run, tying the game at 1.
Juan DePaula, Drew Finley and Daniel Alvarez combined for 15 strikeouts for Staten Island, while Luis Santos took the loss for Mahoning Valley, dropping to 3-1. Adam Scott, this year’s Indians fourth-round pick, had five strikeouts.
Tonight, the two teams play again starting at 7 p.m.
