Locals shine in YSU’s invitational at Mill Creek

BOARDMAN — Two Mahoning Valley golfers helped their women’s golf teams to second and third-place finishes, respectively, in the Roseann Schwartz Invitational hosted Monday and Tuesday by Youngstown State University at Mill Creek Park Golf Course.

Boardman graduate Jacinta Pikunas, a freshman at the University of Akron, finished tied for second among all golfers as she helped the Zips to a second-place finish behind Marshall.

Right behind Akron in third place was Cleveland State, which was led by event medalist Madison Butler and Lakeview graduate Kaylee Neumeister, who finished tied for sixth among individuals.

Youngstown State finished seventh in the 10-school field.

Marshall had a two-day score of 608. Akron was at 620, Cleveland State at 622 and fourth-place Indiana State at 625. YSU’s score was 649.

Butler led all golfers with a two-round 149, 5-over par. Pikunas was tied at 151 with Marshall’s Shelby Brauckmuller and Ylva Forslund, and Indiana State’s Thilda Staubo.

Neumeister, a sophomore at CSU, shot a 152, tied with Stormy Randazzo of Marshall.

YSU’s top golfer, Megan Creager, shot a 157.
