World Series: Making memories

Record setter

Indians ace Corey Kluber set a record when he struck out eight batters through the first three innings. He also became the first Indians pitcher to earn eight strikeouts in an entire World Series game. He fanned nine total in six total innings pitched.

Quick wager

The Republican governors of Illinois and Ohio are betting cases of beer, pizza and other ballpark favorites on the World Series.

On his Twitter page Monday, Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner wagered a Chicago-style deep-dish pizza and microbrew beer from Chicago if Cleveland wins.

Ohio Gov. John Kasich returned the challenge on his Twitter page, promising to send Rauner “fan favorites” if Chicago wins. A Kasich spokeswoman says those would include items such as local beer and ballpark mustard from Cleveland.

Rally together

LeBron James sent each member of the Indians wireless headphones ahead of Game 1 of the World Series against the Chicago Cubs. The Indians repaid James by having shortstop Francisco Lindor sign a jersey and send it back to the Cavaliers.

The Indians are trying to put an end to Cleveland’s championship drought, which is at a daunting 128 days since James and the Cavs beat Golden State in Game 7 of the NBA Finals.
