Area players Scott, Linsley picked up by Vikes, Pack
According to Northwestern University’s website, Howland graduate and Wildcats’ defensive end Tyler Scott has been picked up by the Minnesota Vikings late Saturday night as an undrafted free agent.
Scott, a 2009 Howland graduate, was a co-captain this past season for the Wildcats and was a second-team All- Big Ten selection. He was named the team MVP and was the recipient of the Bryan Paynter “Ultimate Wildcat” award.
He recorded six sacks – a team high – and 10 tackles for loss in 2013.
Meanwhile, on the third day of the NFL draft, the Green Bay Packers chose Boardman graduate and former Ohio State University center Corey Linsley in the fifth round (161st pick).
Linsley, who started every game over the past two seasons at center, was an All-Big Ten First Team selection this past season.
Linsley was the first offensive lineman selected by Green Bay in the draft and the highest interior lineman from Ohio State since 2006 (the Jets took Nick Mangold at 29th).
He was the fifth Buckeye to be taken in the draft (Ryan Shazier, Bradley Roby, Jack Mewhort, Carlos Hyde) in 2014.
Boardman has now produced three NFL draft choices in the past eight years (Steve Vallos and John Greco).
