PV’s Compan named D-III coach of the year

The Pymatuning Valley girls basketball team had a remarkable run through the 2013-14 season – finishing 22-0 in the regular season and winning the AP?state poll in Division III.

For that, coach Jeff Compan was named co-coach of the year by the Associated Press.

Along with Jared Crowe of New Lebanon Dixie and Tom Kontak of Oak Harbor, Compan took home the honor.

As for his team, senior Geena Gabriel was named second-team All-Ohio and teammate Kelsea Brown received third-team honors. Junior Megan Stech was named as honorable mention in the state.

Also in Division III, Ursuline’s Tanaya Beacham was named to the first team while Liberty’s Leah Leshnack made it to second team. Special mention honors went to Bree Bishop of Girard and Starla Sharp of South Range.

In Division IV, Windham’s Jessica Isler, who scored her 1,000th point in her junior season, was placed on the first team. Lordstown’s Sarah Cash, who made a remarkable comeback from knee surgery in the offseason, received third-team honors.

Special mention nods in Division IV?were given to Aleah Hughes of Western Reserve, Brooke Dawson of Maplewood and Taylor Kramar of Badger.

Tonight at 6:30 p.m., the prestigious honor of Ms. Basketball will be announced.
