WRESTLING ROUNDUP: Canfield finishes second at Perry
PERRY PIN CITY INVITATIONAL: PERRY – Canfield finished second at the Perry Pin City Invitational and crowned two champions.
The Cardinals took second with 336.5 points. Freshman Georgio Poullas placed first at 126 pounds by beating Joe Koontz of St. Vincent-St. Mary, 9-0. Sophomore Jacob Esarco won the 220-pound title by beating Mustafa Al-Najjar of North Olmstead, 5-3. Other placers for the Cardinals were Kyle West (second, 113 pounds), Korey Frost (third, 120), C.J. Frost (fourth, 138), Shawn Williams (third, 145), Stan Socha (third, 182), Jaret Bunch (fourth, 195), Tanor English (fifth, 106) and Stephen Daprile (fifth, 132).
Grand Valley placed 11th with 141 points. Glen Zaller took second for the Mustangs at 182 pounds. Cody Rhoads was fourth at 126, Michael Miller sixth at 113 and Luke Baldwin fifth at 160.
Perry won the tourney with 404.5 points.
CHIPPEWA INVITATIONAL: DOYLESTOWN – Hubbard’s Tyler Whitacre and Ryan Bednarik led the Eagles to a fourth-place finish at the Chippewa Invitational.
Whitacre and Bednarik each won their respective weight classes. Whitacre, 195, beat Tyler Murdock of Rittman, 11-4, in the finals, while Bednarik pinned Emery Butler at 220 pounds.
Other placers for Hubbard were Shirley Flynn (fourth, 106 pounds), C.J. Latronico (second, 113), Jared Mascikia (third, 132), Anthony Meirzwa (second, 182) and Tyreek Daniels (third, 285).
Perry won the tournament with 202.5 points. Lake was second with 137, Wellington third with 135 and Hubbard scored 130.5.
