JFK TAKES NINTH: CUYAHOGA FALLS – John F. Kennedy’s boys golf team took ninth at the Walsh Jesuit Invitational at Brookledge Golf Club.
The top four Eagles were Ryan Fowler (77), Billy Phillips (78), Ryan Theis (79), Daniel LaPolla (91).
Stow’s Ian Holt was the medalist with 66 and Chase Johnson of Walsh Jesuit shot 70. The top two players have committed to play at Kent State University.
Host Walsh Jesuit won with 304, followed by St. Ignatius 308, Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin 310, St. Edward 313, Mentor Lake Catholic 320, Aurora 323, Canton Central Catholic 323, Chagrin Falls 323, JFK 325, Green 325, Tallmadge 327, Akron Hoban 332, Padua 332, Lake 333, Nordonia 345, Stow 345, University School 346, Avon Lake 349, Massillon Jackson 349, Brecksville 352, Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy 353, St. Vincent-St. Mary 367, Copley 370.
HOWLAND TEAMS SWEEP:?EAST PALESTINE – Howland’s Ryan Sullivan broke a course record in leading the Tigers to the East Palestine Rotary Cross Country Invitational title.
Sullivan finished with 16 minutes, 4.1 seconds – breaking the mark set by Boardman’s Sam Deskin in 2008 of 16:24.4.
Howland’s runners finished in the top six – finishing with 17 points. United was second with 81 points.
Ben Cole (17:58.3), Tyler Messina (18:01.7), Ethan Neff (18:13.0) and Tommy Gregory placed in the top six, only separated by East Canton’s Nick Miller, who was fourth.
The Howland girls completed the sweep at East Palestine – distancing itself from second-place East Canton, 40-84.
Morgan Buckley took fourth (21:07.3), Taylor Craigo was fifth (21:27.1), Emily Krafcik was seventh (21:56.6) and Haley Dieter was ninth (22:08.5).
SPARKS LEADS CHAMPION TO TITLE: CHAMPION – Champion’s boys edges Lakeside for the Ray Sweeney Invitational title, 77-83.
Allen Sparks led the Golden Flashes and won with a time of 16:51.31. Mineral Ridge’s Logan Smith was third (17:20.84) and Champion’s Nicholas Mackey was fourth (17:42.30).
Geneva won the girls race over Lakeside, 92-98. Girard was third with 113 points.
BOARDMAN WINS AT WALSH JESUIT: CUYAHOGA FALLS – Boardman’s Mark Hadley won the boys gold race at the Walsh Jesuit Tomahawk Run in a time of 15:25.
McDonald’s Bobby Johnson was second (15:59).
Boardman’s Alan Burns took fourth (16:23).
Boardman beat out Louisville for the team title, 62-68. McDonald was sixth (196).
Lakeview’s Chris Edie finished third in the boys maroon race (17:43). Perry beat Lakeview for the team title, 54-78.
McDonald’s Bailee D’Amore was seventh in the girls maroon race (22:16).
Perry beat Elyria Catholic for the team title, 68-107. McDonald was third (110).
MAPLEWOOD BOYS TAKE SECOND TO CVCA: TIFFIN – Tristan Dahmen took third to lead the Maplewood boys in the Division II race (16:20.42).
However, Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy edged out the Rockets for the team title 150-156.
Maplewood’s boys fielded another team and ran in the Division III-B race, placing sixth with 188 points. Lordstown took 10th (292) and South Range was 17th (495).
Badger’s Owen Reeher was 19th in the Division III-A boys race (17:04.27).
McDonald’s girls was sixth in the Division III girls race (197), while South Range was eighth (209). Badger took 27th (801).
South Range’s Mollie Pierson was ninth (19:43.30) and McDonald’s Heidi Hoffman was 15th (20:08.58).
Canfield’s boys took ninth in the boys Division I-A race (358), while the Cardinals girls took 13th in the girls Division I-B race (386).
