Scrappers swept in doubleheader
NILES – The Mahoning Valley Scrappers dropped two games in a doubleheader Friday Night at Eastwood Field. The Batavia Muckdogs won both games by a score of 4-2.
Game 1 went to extra innings as it was knotted at one with Batavia (33-29) scoring in the second inning and Mahoning Valley (24-28) adding a run in the fourth. The Muckdogs scored three in the top of the eighth inning and the Scrappers could only answer with one in the bottom half.
Game 2 began with two Scrappers errors in the top half of the fourth inning. The Muckdogs scored two in both the first and second innings, though no runs were earned by starting pitcher Ben Heller. The Scrappers out-hit the visitors, 7-6, and the Muckdogs committed three errors.
Claudio Bautista had two hits in Game 1 and Robel Garcia had two hits in Game 2. Mahoning Valley stranded 12 runners on base for the night and was a combined 2 for 17 with runners in scoring position.
The Scrappers host the Muckdogs again tonight at 7:05 p.m. The first 1,000 fans in attendance at Eastwood Field will receive a Vinnie Pestano bobblehead.
