Saturday’s prep roundup


Hunter Rhoades had 12 strikeouts and Chase Thurber had a pair of hits in Pymatuning Valley’s 12-2 win over Bristol in non-conference action. Tim Cross and Cody Ellis each drove in two runs for the Lakers.

Ursuline defeated Notre Dame Cathedral Latin, 4-1, in Chardon. Harry Finelli and Drew Potesta had two hits for the Irish. Nick Revak, Dion Felger, and Joel Hake combined to throw a 2-hitter.

Ryan Ifft, Ian Hileman, J.C. Pierko and James Tate all had three hits in Niles’ 10-2 win over South Range. Pierko, Hileman and James Tate also each drove in two runs.


Ursuline scored in the top of the fifth when Macey Gunther plated on an errant throw with the bases loaded to beat Liberty, 1-0, in a Division III?sectional final.

Liberty threatened in the seventh with two outs when Raven Johnson and Amy Mikulich each had infield singles, then Kimmy Cordy blooped a single to load the bases before Makayla Shore recorded the final out. Shore had nine strikeouts.

Carly DeRose, Jordan Youngs and Darrien Yanek each had two RBIs in South Range’s 11-0 five inning win over Mogadore.
