McDonald’s Ifft hits solo homer to beat Sebring

McDonald’s Cameron Ifft hit a one-out solo home run on an 0-2 count in the top of the sixth inning to lift the Blue Devils past Sebring, 1-0. McDonald pitcher Mike Raschilla tossed a two-hitter, striking out 12 and walking none.

John F. Kennedy’s Anthony Rossi hit a bases-clearing double in the fifth inning for three of his four RBIs in an 18-6 victory over Chanel in six innings. Chandler Diles had two of his three RBIs off a single in the sixth inning.

Niles’ Ryan Ifft went the distance for the Red Dragons in their 6-4 win at Lakeview. After pulling to within two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Bulldogs managed to have the winning runner at the plate with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but a groundout to the first baseman sealed the win for Niles.

Windham starting pitcher Brad Kowalski allowed a hit to East Canton’s leadoff batter, and that was it in the Bombers’ 8-1 win over the Hornets.

Softball

Leigh Gatta of McDonald continued her hot streak on the mound this week in an 8-6 win at Sebring. The senior pitcher struck out 10 batters to make it 33 strikeouts in a three-day span and improved her record to 7-4.

South Range scored all 15 of its runs and had 17 of its 21 hits in the first three innings as the Raiders won at Crestview, 15-6.

Makayla Shore pitched five innings of two-hit softball and helped her own cause by recording three hits and two RBIs in Ursuline’s 11-0 win at Hubbard.

In the top of ninth inning, freshman Alyssa Sterle stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded and delivered an RBI single that scored Chyanne Ensign for the game-winning run, as Lordstown beat Grand Valley in nine innings, 3-2.

It took eight innings in a game continued from a rain out for Champion to beat Liberty, 2-1. In the top of eighth, Liberty pitcher Lyndsey Johnson walked Sierra Blackson, and after an error and another walk loaded the bases, Johnson walked in Blackson for the winning run.

Fitch’s Alana Callahan had three extra-base hits and was a single away from the cycle as the Falcons dominated Niles, 13-2. Niles’ Sammy Melius had two RBIs off a fifth-inning single.

LaBrae’s Emily Dugan had two RBIs off a double in the third inning and two more off a single in the sixth as the Vikings hammered host Windham in six innings, 17-5. Somer McCoy added three RBIs, while Jessica Buck had two for the Vikings.
