Ferguson homers — again — as Mineral Ridge edges Springfield

Greg Strohmeyer struck out two and had a Springfield batter hit into a weak grounder to third base to end the seventh inning as Mineral Ridge beat the Tigers, 4-3. Dan Ferguson hit his sixth home run of the season – a solo shot in the top of the third inning.

Kyle Orgovan had two triples and four RBIs to lead Grand Valley past Lordstown, 12-10. Matt Larned, who had a home run, and Stanley Sirrine each batted in two.

Justin Len led off a five-run third inning with a solo home run as Southington pulled away from Badger in a 10-2 win.

Nate Clark did it all for Jackson-Milton in a five-inning win at United, 18-2. To go along with holding United to two runs, Clark had three hits and drove in five runs.

Austintown Fitch’s Austin Cooper won a pitcher’s duel with Niles’ Tyler Wiery to pick up a 1-0 win. Scott Pierce drove in Shane Vitullo for the game-winning run in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Ben Carkido drove in the go-ahead run with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning to lift McDonald over Columbiana, 5-4, in an Inter Tri-County League, Lower Tier showdown.

McDonald’s Tom Rebraca reach on an error to start the sixth, moved to second on a passed ball and Carkido, who also doubled, hit a single down the left-field line to score him. Columbiana had runners on first and second in the seventh, but the Blue Devils escaped the jam when Mike Schuller induced a game-ending ground ball to third. Schuller struck out six in a complete-game effort. Mike Raschilla hit two singles and drove in two for the Blue Devils (14-3, 11-1).


Neco Maderitz put in another strong outing in Girard’s 6-1 win over Mooney. She struck out 16 Cardinals and gave up one triple as Mooney’s only hit.

Three Canfield players – Amelia Manenti, Kayley Keller and Kara Rothbauer – went yard and Rachel Tinkey drove in six runs on four hits, as the Cardinals beat Struthers in five innings, 16-6.

Bristol’s Lindsey Elza scored in the top of the fifth inning and Amanda McClellan plated a run in the top of the seventh – both unearned – to hold off host Maplewood, 2-0. Bristol pitcher Ashlyn Slusher and Maplewood pitcher Brooke Dawson combined for 14 strikeouts and one walk.

Darrian Yanek and Sara Morretti each had three RBIs to lead South Range past Lisbon in five innings, 15-1.
