WGH softball improves to 7-1

Warren G. Harding pounded Bedford for 15 hits and improved their record to 7-1 on the season with a 13-0 victory. Six Raiders had multiple hits, including Alyssa Donald and Shelby Crist with three each. Taylor Long had two hits with three RBIs. Alexis Stano struck out nine in the victory.

Ursuline’s Makayla Shore pitched a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts as the Fighting Irish defeated Columbiana 4-2. In the first inning, Macey Gunther and Shore hit back-to-back solo home runs to give the Irish the lead.

In a game full of late-inning rallies, Maplewood came through with the last one. The Rockets’ Ryley Urchek hit a single down the left-field line to score Brooke Dawson from third base and give Maplewood a 6-5 Northeastern Athletic Conference victory over Lordstown in 11 innings.

Lordstown (2-2) erased a one-run deficit in the top of the seventh inning on RBIs by Kansas Lickwar and Melody Taylor. Maplewood (5-2, 5-1) tied it at 5 in the bottom half of the inning when Courtney Peters laid down a squeeze bunt to score Dawson from third. Dawson, who struck out nine in a complete-game effort and collected a team-high five hits, singled to start the 11th, stole second, moved to third on a single and scored on Urchek’s shot down the line.

Lordstown’s Sami Heverly and Allison Hajnosz each homered, while Haley Toporcer struck out 11 and walked one in the loss. Urchek drove in three, and Taylor Lewis had four hits, including a double, and three RBIs.

In Vienna, Cheyenne Eggens and Jessica Marisco combined to throw a one-hitter as Mathews improved to 8-0 with a 14-0 win over Ledgemont.

Emily Rybak and Leah Maxey each had a a run, a double and a single for Garfield in its 4-1 win over Mogadore.
