South Range’s DeRose tosses no-hitter
South Range’s Carly DeRose no-hit Jackson-Milton and was a walk away from a perfect game in the Raiders’ 8-0 Inter Tri-County League, Upper Tier victory over Jackson-Milton. DeRose struck out 12. Stevie Taylor, who doubled and drove in two runs, was one of six players with two hits.
Abby Baker allowed one hit and struck out eight as Canfield cruised past Austintown Fitch, 12-1, in an All-American Conference, American Division matchup. Baker also collected three hits. Rachel Tinkey hit a three-run double, and Amelia Manenti tripled and drove in three runs for the Cardinals (4-3, 3-1).
Darby Kolesar of Mineral Ridge struck out seven and didn’t walk a batter and also hit a triple in the sixth inning to propel the Rams over East Palestine, 3-2, in an ITCL, Upper Tier contest. Allie Watkins singled Kolesar home for the eventual game-winning run in the sixth.
A pair of two-out doubles in the sixth inning led LaBrae to a 3-2 All-American Conference, National Division victory over Newton Falls. The Vikings (10-0, 5-0) entered the sixth down, 2-1, but Skyler Gylani and Lauren Rutherford each hit run-scoring doubles. Emily Dugan allowed four hits to earn the win. Bailey Shade of Newton Falls (4-3) struck out eight in the loss.
Champion pitcher Brittany Allen no-hit Campbell and Haylee Gardiner had four RBIs in a 14-0 victory in Campbell.
Mathews sophomore pitcher Cheyenne Eggens held Maplewood to two singles, tossed 15 strikeouts and gave up no walks as the Mustangs remained undefeated in a 5-0 victory.
Hubbard’s Melissa Conger held Beaver Local to three singles and tossed 10 strikeouts in a 5-0 victory at Hubbard.
Girard’s Neco Maderitz struck out 16 Leopards and held them scoreless until the the last inning, and the Indians gave her plenty of run support with seven extra-base hits en route to a 9-1 win over Liberty.
