Kennedy freshman dominates in victory
John F. Kennedy freshman Mackayla Kroll has had a good start to the week as she has led the Eagles to two wins over Villa Angela-St. Joseph.
On Monday, Kroll pitched a perfect game as well as hit a triple, double and single. In the game, she struck out 13.
On Tuesday, Kroll continued her dominance, retiring 12 batters and allowing two hits in the Eagles 16-0 victory.
Also on the mound, Girard pitcher Neco Maderitz continued her hot start to the season by striking out 10 batters to lead Girard to a 7-1 victory over Jefferson. The victory avenges the loss from yesterday. She also had a double and two RBIs.
Windham improves to 5-0 on the season with an 11-0 victory over Woodridge. Savannah Rutherford had three hits, including a double, and three RBIs.
Ursuline’s Macey Gunther had four hits including a two-run homer to lead the Fighting Irish past arch rival Cardinal Mooney, 11-1. Pitcher Mikayla Shore hit a solo homer. She also struck out seven batters and walked one.
Austintown Fitch’s Sam Mehle hit the game-winning single in the eighth inning, driving in Gabby Butcher, to give the Falcons the victory over Poland, 5-4. Poland had its opportunities, but couldn’t make them count as they had 13 hits on the day.
Western Reserve’s April Lude threw a no-hitter and helped her own cause with three hits and two RBIs leading the Blue Devils to the five-inning victory over Leetonia, 14-0. Jenny Stubbs had two hits, including a home run and five RBIs in the winning effort.
South Range continues its good start to the season with a 10-0 victory. On the reason, the Raiders have only given up three runs in its first six games.
Maplewood’s Brooke Dawson struck out 13 and only allowed one-hit as the Rockets defeated Grand Valley in Northeastern Athletic Conference action. Teammate Ryley Urchek had four hits for the Rockets.
Finally, Mathews continued its undefeated start to the season when Cheyenne Eggens threw a two-hitter to beat Pymatuning Valley, 9-0.
