Ferguson powers Mineral Ridge to victory

Mineral Ridge’s Dan Ferguson hit his third home run of the year in the fifth inning, and it ended up being the difference in the Rams’ 4-3 Inter Tri-County League, Upper Tier victory over East Palestine. Mike White drove in two for the Rams (6-4, 3-3).

Newton Falls edged LaBrae, 3-2, scoring the go-ahead run in the third inning on a two-out RBI single by Levi Reed. Justin Humphrey picked up the All-American Conference, National Division win for Newton Falls (5-2, 4-0), allowing two runs over 5 1/3 innings. Tyler Shiamone paced LaBrae (4-2, 2-2) with two hits.

Niles scored three times in the bottom of the third to beat Struthers, 5-2, in an All-American Conference, American Division battle. Tyler Wiery led Niles with two hits, while Brennen Baker allowed two runs on five hits over 6 innings.

Michael Moamis hit a three-run triple to help Liberty top Girard, 7-4, in an All-American Conference, National Division clash. Moamis was 2 for 3 with a double, triple and three RBIs. Justin House pitched a complete game, striking out five, in earning the win.

For the second day in a row, McDonald defeated Leetonia by the score of 12-2. The “Mike” trio of Mike Schuller, Mike Raschilla and Mike Soots combined for seven hits. Soots finished with a team-high four RBIs.

Jefferson’s Ethan Pawlowski singled, stole second and Joe Piscsalko singled to drive in Pawlowski for the winning run in the bottom for the fourth inning in a 3-2 game in Cortland.

Lakeview, who cut the lead to 2-1 in the top of the fourth, left the bases loaded as the potential tying run was thrown out at the plate to end the inning. The game was at Lakeview because of poor field conditions in Jefferson.

Robert Vargo’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth inning scored Drew Bencetic from third base as Hubbard beat Beaver Local, 6-5, in Hubbard. Bencetic led off the inning with a pinch-hit double and Alex Greathouse’s bunt single moved Bencetic to third. T.J. Jones squashed Beaver Local in the top of the seventh with a 1-2-3 inning for the save.
