ROOTSTOWN – Maplewood moves on in the playoffs with a 62-34 victory over McDonald.
Maplewood’s Miranda Sloan scored 20 points – nine of the points coming in the third quarter. Allison Bell added 15 for the Rockets. McDonald’s Sara Joseph scored 11 in the defeat.
Maplewood advances to the Division IV sectional finals to take on Southington.
The game will take place Saturday, Feb. 23 at Rootstown High School. Tip-off is at noon.
HUDSON 67, HOWLAND 35: AKRON – Hudson jumped out to a nine point lead in the first quarter and cruised from there to defeat the Tigers in a Division I Akron sectional semifinal.
The Explorers’ lead jumped to 37-13 by the half. Youngstown State recruit Hannah Boesinger led Hudson with 15 points. Kristen Mummey chipped in 14. Hudson is now 18-5 and advances to take on Nordonia Saturday in a sectional final.
Victoria Rappach led Howland with 12 points. The Tigers finish the season at 11-12.
MOGADORE 50, GARFIELD 25: BARBERTON – Garfield’s season ends as it loses to Mogadore in the Division III sectional semifinals.
Mogadore set the tone early, outscoring Garfield 25-7 in the first quarter. Garfield could not recover from the early deficit .
Alicia Witte led Garfield with seven points. Grace Reilly led Mogadore with 15 points.
YOUNGSTOWN CHRISTIAN 64, NEWTON FALLS 39: YOUNGSTOWN – Youngstown Christian used a big second quarter to get past Newton Falls.
Youngstown Christian outscored Newton Falls 20-6 in the second quarter to lead 32-15 at the half. Youngstown Christian did not relinquish the lead.
Dale Kernen scored 16 points for Newton Falls and Ozzie Hawkins added six. Dublis tallied 25 points for Youngstown Christian.
