Mathews’ girls beats Badger in sectional semifinal

ROOTSTOWN – Maddie Williams had 15 of her game-high 25 points in the second half to lead the Mustangs past the Braves, 66-52, in this Division IV sectional semifinal at Rootstown High School.

Jacki Rhine added 18 for Mathews, which faces second-seeded Lordstown in Thursday’s sectional final.

Badger’s Taylor Kramar led the Braves with 15 points, while Brandi Nitcit added 12.

UNITED 91, CAMPBELL MEMORIAL 26: MINERAL RIDGE – Emily Zenhenbauer had 11 of her game-high 25 points to pace top-seeded United past Campbell in this Division III sectional semifinal at Mineral Ridge High School.

Mackenzie Gatcher added 15, while Sam Spitler put in 13 for United, which plays South Range Saturday in a sectional final.

Johanna Villanuvea paced the Red Devils with eight points.

SOUTH RANGE 43, BROOKFIELD 36: MINERAL RIDGE – Lexi Naples had a game-high 12 points to pace the Raiders past the Warriors in the Division III sectional semifinal at Mineral Ridge High School.

South Range now plays top-seeded United in Saturday’s sectional final.

Tori Thompson and Ashley Kirila each had eight points for Brookfield.

WINDHAM 61, NEWBURY 49: ROOTSTOWN – Windham’s Jessica Isler scored 24 points and helped Windham move on in the playoffs.

Morgan Schreiner and Dari Heller each scored 12 for Windham. Iden scored 15 for Newbury and Walsh added 13.

With the win, Windham advances to the Division IV sectional semifinals and will play against Cornerstone Christian.

The game will be played Thursday, Feb. 21, at Rootstown High School. Tip-off starts at 6 p.m.
