Howland in sixth place at district wrestling tournament
ALLIANCE – Howland is in sixth place with 32 points and has all eight of its wrestlers still in contention at the Division II district tournament at Alliance High School.
Gabe Stark, 145 pounds, and David Brian Whisler, 152, each won twice and advanced to the semifinals. The Tigers’ Nico Lucarelli (113), Alex Cornicelli (126), Jordan Radich (160), Josh Grodesky (182), Andrew Rolfe (195) and Mike Bell (285) all won once and lost once at the double-elimination tournament.
Canfield is in eighth place with 30 points. The Cardinals’ John Poullas, 170, and Stan Socha, 182, won their first two matches to reach the quarterfinals. Korey Frost (113), Hayden Smith (195) and Curtis Burns (285) won and lost a match and are still in contention.
Poland’s in 13th with 22 points, led by Dante Ginnetti (106) and Mike Audi (170), who both made the semifinals. Anthony Mancini (152) and Abe Kassem (195) also still have a chance to the reach the state tournament (the top four placers advance).
Southeast’s Brandon James won twice to reach the 170-pound semifinals. The Pirates’ Hunter McPeak (138) and Santana Barrera (220) won once and lost once.
Hubbard’s Tyreek Daniels (285) lost his first two matches and was eliminated.
Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy is in first place with 80.5 points.
