Jackson-Milton upsets Akron Manchester in wrestling quarterfinal

AKRON – The sixth-seeded Jackson-Milton Blue Jays upset Akron Manchester, the No. 3 seed, in a Division III, Region 20 quarterfinal at Manchester High School.

The Blue Jays won eight of the 14 matches and secured three pins to take the match, 40-24. Jackson-Milton now faces second-seeded Rootstown at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Rootstown High School.

Top-seeded Howland battled past Hoban, 56-23, to advance to the Division II, Region 11 semifinal. The Tigers won seven of the final eight matches and will face Crestwood, a four seed, at 6 p.m. Wednesday. They’ll wrestle again on Wednesday, if they win, for a chance to move on to the regional final.

Girard, No. 6, fell to third-seeded Kirtland, 43-26, in a Division III, Region 19 dual at Grand Valley High School. Liberty’s match against Wickliffe at Cardinal High School was rescheduled for today because of inclement weather. The Leopards are an eight seed, while Wickliffe is No. 9. The winner faces top-seeded Cardinal 20 minutes after the conclusion of their meet.

Austintown Fitch fell to Hoover, 47-28, in a Division I, Region 4 clash.
