Ursuline wins rivalry game over Mooney

URSULINE 69, MOONEY 66: YOUNGSTOWN — In a battle of bitter rivals, it was Youngstown Ursuline who came out on top, defeating the Cardinal Mooney Cardinals.

The two teams were neck and neck until the final quarter, when the Fighting Irish outscored Mooney by 4 points, giving them the edge.

RJ Clark led the Fighting Irish with 18 points. Daysean Harris scored 10 and Devan Keevey scored nine.

Leading the Cardinals was Mike Pelini who scored 16 points. He was one of four to score in double-figures. Anthony Fire scored 12, Pete Haas scored 11 and Sonny Rodriguez scored 11.

McDONALD 64, SEBRING 56: McDONALD — McDonald’s 24-point first quarter was enough to keep them ahead for the remainder in a Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference battle against Sebring Friday night.

Zach Rasile led the Blue Devils, scoring 39 points. Rasile was the lone double-figure scorer for McDonald.

Gabe Lanzer scored 17 points, leading the Trojans. Joey Clark added 14 points.

Rasile is one shy of the state 3-point record, and will have a chance to break it tonight in Bristol against the Panthers.

SPRINGFIELD 72, MINERAL RIDGE 49: NEW MIDDLETOWN — Springfield outscored the Rams, 21-2, in the first quarter and was never threatened in this Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference matchup.

The Tigers’ Drew Clark scored eight of his game-high 20 points in the first quarter, making two of his four 3-pointers. Clay Medvec also sank two of his 3-pointers in the first, finishing the game with 16 points. Shane Eynon added seven of his 19.

Koby Zupko paced the Rams (11-8, 6-6) with 15 points, and Joe Rozzi added 11.

LOWELLVILLE 53, JACKSON-MILTON 33: LOWELLVILLE — Lowellville outscored the Blue Jays by more than 10 in two quarters to give them a 20-point victory in a Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference matchup.

Micah Mamula-Zarlingo and Dylan Durkin each scored 12 points, leading the Rockets. Jake Rotz added nine points.

Cole Grope was the lone double-figure scorer for the Blue Jays, putting up 13 points.
