Maplewood, Badger will play 3rd time

MAPLEWOOD 61, CHALKER 14: MECCA — Courtney Hubbard sank eight 3-pointers, breaking her own school record, as Maplewood rolled in a Division IV sectional first round game. Hubbard set the previous mark of seven made 3s a year ago in the Rockets’ first tournament game.

Marissa Ventura added 12 points and Heidi Stiffler had 10 for the fourth-seeded Rockets (19-4). Maplewood plays fifth-seeded Badger at home at 1 p.m. Saturday in a sectional bracket final of the Grand Valley District.

Chalker (2-17) was led by Shae Keeley with four points.

BADGER 50, FAIRPORT HARBOR 16: VERNON — Kiersten Tricker had a game-high 15 points to lead the fifth-seeded Braves past the 12th-seeded Skippers in this Division IV sectional first-round matchup.

Badger led 31-8 at halftime.

The Braves (15-8) now travel west to play Saturday at fourth-seeded Maplewood, starting at 1 p.m.

LIBERTY 85, CAMPBELL 22: LIBERTY — Delia Watson had a game-high 21 points to lead the fifth-seeded Leopards past the 12th-seeded Red Devils in this Division III sectional first-round matchup.

Liberty (13-10) plays at fourth-seeded Columbiana in a sectional bracket final Saturday at 1 p.m.

Sharda Williamson added 19 points, while Neveah Dixon put in 14 for the Leopards.

India Armour Clark paced Campbell with 10 points.

MATHEWS 52, WINDHAM 36: VIENNA — Mathews came back from a 15-4 first-quarter deficit to win the Division IV sectional first round game in the Grand Valley District. The seventh-seeded Mustangs (9-13) trailed 24-14 at halftime before taking a 32-30 lead into the final quarter. Mathews plays at second-seeded Willoughby Andrews Osborne Saturday at 1 p.m. in a sectional bracket final.

Carlie Pratt scored 13 of her game-high 19 points in the second half for Mathews and Ashley Deans scored 14 of her 16 after intermission. Bella Greenwood added 10 points, four assists and six rebounds. Mya McGregor blocked four shots.

Windham (5-17) was paced by Mackenzie McLean and Zarah Cunningham with 10 points each.

JACKSON-MILTON 67, LOWELLVILLE 15: NORTH JACKSON — The Blue Jays jumped out to a 24-4 lead after one quarter, then shut out the Rockets in the fourth quarter of the Division IV sectional first round game in the Mineral Ridge District. Jackson-Milton (11-12) will play at Lisbon Saturday at 1 p.m. in a sectional bracket final.

Courtney Mercer led the Jays with 19 points, four assists and four steals. She was supported by Abigail Spalding with 14 points and four steals, and Ashley Cameronwith 10 points and four steals.

VALLEY CHRISTIAN 76, SEBRING 39: YOUNGSTOWN — Kristen Gill poured in 30 points and NeSyiah Taylor added 26 as Valley Christian rolled in the Division IV sectional first round game in the Mineral Ridge District. The Eagles will visit top-seeded McDonald on Saturday in a sectional bracket final.

Valley Christian led just 21-16 after one quarter, but a 27-7 second quarter opened the lead to 48-23 at halftime.

Boys

NILES 81, JEFFERSON 55: NILES — The Red Dragons outscored the Falcons 50-33 in the second half to finish the regular season above .500.

Cyler Kane-Johnson led the Red Dragons around his average with 26 points, while Douglas Foster added 17. Robbie Savin put in 13 for Niles (12-10, 7-7 Northeast-8).
