Howland’s Mindek 5th at state

CANTON — Howland sophomore Jared Mindek finished fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke at Friday’s Division II state swimming and diving meet at the C.T. Branin Natatorium.

Mindek swam a time of 57.47 seconds. It is a marked improvement from last year’s state time and placement of 1:00.30 and 15th place.

Mindek swam 27.04 seconds in the first half of his race on Friday.

Bowling Green senior CJ Layne won the event in a time of 54.48 seconds, a state record.

Cincinnati Mariemont senior Ian Mikesell was second (56.53), Hamilton Badin junior Adam Sherman was third (57.36) and Pepper Pike Orange senior Jonah Katz was fourth (57.43).

Mindek finished third in the state preliminaries held Thursday with a time of 57.81.
