Harding girls advance to bowling district

The Warren G. Harding girls bowling team joins two other area Division I teams and three area individuals in advancing to district competition after rolling Friday in the sectional tournament at Sto-Kent Family Entertainment Center in Stow.

The Raiders grabbed the third and final qualifying spot, behind first-place Stow-Munroe Falls and runner-up Boardman.

Harding had all five of its bowlers in the top 24 of the individual qualifying list. Seniors Isabella Frazzini and Payton Schuller led the way, finishing eighth (505 score) and 13th (479), respectively. Juniors Paityn Stinestra (17th, 465), Zoey Schoolcraft (23rd, 434) and Iionna Honzu (24th, 425) provided enough support for the Raiders to outscore fourth-place Howland by 114 pins.

The Tigers did advance senior Danielle Harigan (10th, 493) as one of the top three individuals not on a qualifying team. Fellow Howland senior Justine Bailes fell short by seven pins of the third and final qualifying spot, losing out to Austintown Fitch senior Renee Seebacher (488).

Boardman was 259 pins ahead of third-place Harding, but trailed sectional champion Stow by 213 pins. The Spartans were led by sophomores Lexus Petrich (2nd, 574) and Josalyn Hibbard (4th, 560), and freshman Sam Hoffman (6th, 543).

On the boys side, runner-up Fitch finished just 41 pins short of Kent Roosevelt. Stow finished third.

Niles junior Nathan Zook grabbed the third and final individual qualifying spot with a 555, good for ninth place overall. Harding senior Shon Moore was 10th (536) and Howland senior Nate Scott was 13th (522).

Fitch was led by junior Seth Harper who had the best individual qualifying series of the day, 649. He was supported by sophomore Larry Iagulli (6th, 590), senior Domenic Veltri (8th, 577) and freshman Vincent Desiato (11th, 530).

The Division I district tournament is scheduled Feb. 23 for girls and Feb. 24 for boys at Roseland Lanes in Oakwood Village, near Bedford.

The Division II district for area teams is at Buckeye Lanes in North Olmsted. The girls roll Sunday and the boys on Monday.
