¯ NEWTON FALLS 51, CHAMPION 50: CHAMPION — Newton Falls overcame a 17-0 deficit to start the game and edged the Golden Flashes in their All-American Conference, Blue Tier opener.

Newton Falls’ Elizabeth Barreca led all scorers with 19 points, while Breeana Hutson added 12. Trailing 17-0 in the first quarter, the Tigers went on a 19-10 run to pull within eight by halftime. They then outscored Champion, 14-6, in the third quarter to tie the game.

Allison Smith led three Golden Flashes (2-3, 0-1) in double figures with 15. Emma Gumont put in 13 more, and Abby White added 12 points on four 3-pointers.

¯ GARFIELD 59, LORDSTOWN 43: GARRETTSVILLE — Grace Mills and Jenna Smith powered a huge first quarter for Garfield during a dominant non-conference victory over the Red Devils.

Mills and Smith scored all 26 first-quarter points as the G-Men (5-2) took a 26-8 lead. Mills scored 14 of her game-high 25, and Smith recorded all 12 of her points in the frame. The G-Men were up 37-13 at halftime.

Kellee Applegate paced Lordstown (3-3) with 13, while Jenna Smith added 12.

¯ MOONEY 59, URSULINE 49: YOUNGSTOWN — A longtime rivalry game took place Wednesday night between Mooney and Ursuline, with Mooney getting the better end of it.

After falling behind by six to open the game, Mooney (5-1) outscored the Irish, 18-8, in the second quarter. That was enough to take the lead, and keep the lead. Mooney’s leading scorer was Camden Hagenrother who tacked on 25 points.

Ursuline (3-4), which was outscored 32-26 in the second half, was paced by Dayshanette Harris’ 24 points.

¯ HOWLAND 82, CHANEY 9: HOWLAND — To say Howland won its game Wednesday night would be an understatement.

The offense was on fire, posting 82 points, while the Tigers defense was just as good. Chaney was held scoreless in both the second and fourth quarters. Four Howland (5-2) players scored in double digits, with Kayla Clark leading everyone with 25 points. Alyssa Pompelia and Makayla Dahman each put in 13, while Alex Ochman added 11.

¯ LIBERTY 47, CRESTVIEW 23: LIBERTY — Liberty’s defense was the main story in Wednesday’s contest versus Crestview.

The Leopards defense did not allow Crestview to crack 10 points in any quarter throughout the contest. Sharda Williamson of Liberty (5-1) continued her strong start to the season by putting up 26 points on 11 baskets.

Crestview’s Krista Perry led the Rebels with 11 points.

¯ WARREN G. HARDING 72, PEPPER PIKE ORANGE 48: ORANGE — The Warren G. Harding Raiders remain undefeated thus far as they defeated Pepper Pike Orange on the road.

Harding (4-0) had three players score in double digits Wednesday night. Faith Burch led all scorers with 21 points, while teammate Kamarah Bender had 19 and Indea Phillips added 13. It was about offense for the Raiders, as they posted 37 points in the first half, and carried that over into the third quarter with a 26-point effort.

That was enough to put Pepper Pike Orange on the losing side of the contest.

¯ MENTOR LAKE CATHOLIC 37, JOHN F. KENNEDY 35: WARREN — John F. Kennedy trailed 37-28 with two minutes left in the contest. The Eagles made a run at a last-minute rally and brought it within two but ultimately fell just short.

Kennedy’s leading scorer for the season, Caitlyn Condoleon, was held to six points, but she managed five assists. Danielle Bradley led the Eagles with 16 points for the night.

¯ CANFIELD 59, LOUISVILLE 43: CANFIELD — Canfield took a slim lead into halftime but pulled away in the second half after outscoring Louisville 30-23 in the final two quarters.

Grace Mangapora was a large reason for the victory, as she scored a game high 28 points for the Cardinals. Serena Sammarone added 14 points, and Gianna Flask scored 10 for Canfield.
