Devils new ‘O’ rips Brookfield; LaBrae shuts out Conneaut
¯ McDONALD 48, BROOKFIELD 14: BROOKFIELD — McDonald unveiled a different offense for the first time in nearly four decades on Friday, and the results were impressive.
Led by senior running back Alex Cintron, the Blue Devils ran for 413 yards and seven touchdowns. Cintron ran for 227 yards and five TDs, and quarterback Josh Celli added 154 yards and one TD.
McDonald led 21-0 before the Warriors scored on a Haden Gibson 7-yard run, but the Blue Devils responded with three more scores to put the game away.
Dionte Colwell paced Brookfield with 83 yards and one TD on 18 carries.
¯ LaBRAE 41, CONNEAUT 0: LEAVITTSBURG — The Vikings held the Spartans to minus-14 yards rushing as LaBrae rolled past Conneaut.
The Vikings offense was on target as well with Walt Allie having three catches for 174 yards and two touchdowns of 96 and 42 yards — accounting for most of his receiving total.
Kent Wolford, seen as one of the top passers in the area, was 11 of 19 for 269 yards and three scores and ran for a 5-yard touchdown.
LaBrae outgained Conneaut in total yardage 383 to 52.
¯ NEWTON FALLS 27, WATERLOO 21: ATWATER — The Tigers started the second Mike Gillespie era with a victory on the road.
Falls built a 27-7 lead through three quarters and then held off the Vikings who scored twice in the final quarter.
Ivan Howard passed for 214 yards on 13-for-20, and also ran for 77 yards on 12 carries for Newton Falls. Christian McCabe added 77 yards on the ground and Jacob Wright had 72 in a balanced attack.
Paul Broadrick had four catches and Cole Marquette and Adam Honeycutt grabbed three apiece.
The Tigers held a 446-234 yard advantage in total offense, but were penalized 12 times for 125 yards.
