Sparks, Holmes star at state indoor track meet

GENEVA — Maplewood’s Ethan Sparks took second and Garfield’s Tyler Klouda was third in the Division II-III boys 1,600-meter run at Saturday’s Ohio Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches state indoor track and field meet at the SPIRE Institute.

Sparks ran 4:19.90, while Klouda went 4:21.88. The Garfield junior was sixth in 3,200 (9:47.10).

Grand Valley’s Allie Holmes was second in the Division II-III girls long jump (16 feet, 10.75 inches).

Howland’s Vincent Mauri was fourth in the Division I boys 3,200 (9:23.01), while Canfield’s Giovanni Copploe was seventh (9:31.37).

In the boys Division II-III 200, Dionte Colwell was third (22.51), but eighth in the 60 (7.09).

Austintown Fitch’s Jakari Lumsden was third in the Division I boys high jump, while teammate Deondre McKeever was fourth and Boardman’s Justice Jama took seventh. All three jumped 6-3, but the places were determined because of the amount of misses.

Lordstown’s Greg Romain was fourth in the Division II-III boys high jump (6-4).

Youngstown East’s Jahniya Bowers was fifth in the Division I girls 60 (7.72), while taking sixth in the 200 (25.30).

LaBrae’s Dynesty Ervin was fifth in the Division II-III 200 (25.71) and in the 60 (7.84).

Maplewood’s Charlotte Crouch was sixth in the Division II-III girls 800 (2:22.92).

East’s Kyndia Matlock, Iyana Dixon, Johnae Coleman and Bowers were sixth in the Division I girls 4×200 relay (1:44.86).

Liberty’s Justin Clark was eighth in the Division II-III boys 60 hurdles (8.60).
