Local bowlers have big day in Division II

Lakeview junior Seth Dunn topped all Division II boys bowlers Friday in the state tournament at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl to showcase an excellent day by local bowlers.

Dunn rolled a 703 series in the three-game qualifying that includes all bowlers — team and individual — at the state meet. His teammate, freshman Conner Pawlosky, finished fifth overall with a 632 score.

Liberty also had two individuals in the top 10, as seniors Alex Hlaudy and Andrew Everly finished eighth and ninth, respectively, with scores of 618 and 612.

In the team competition, Lakeview qualified fourth of the 16 teams and Girard was seventh. The top eight teams advance to a single-elimination tournament. Liberty missed qualifying for the quarterfinals by 22 pins and finished 10th.

In the team event, Lakeview lost to fifth-ranked Mechanicsburg, the eventual state champion, three games to two. Mechanicsburg captured the decisive fifth game, 163-139.

Girard, meanwhile, defeated second ranked St. Paris Graham, three games to one. The Indians then were beaten in the semifinal round, three games to two, by Plain City Jonathan Alder.

In the final standings, Girard was fourth and Lakeview sixth.
