Niles wins big; Girard, Newton Falls triumph
¯ NILES 76, JEFFERSON 42: JEFFERSON — Cyler Kane-Johnson fired in 41 points and the Red Dragons ended a six-game losing streak. Niles (3-15, 2-10 All-American Conference White Tier) blasted out to a 28-9 lead after one quarter and coasted.
Jacob Buttar nailed five 3-pointers for 15 points to back up Kane-Johnson.
¯ GIRARD 84, LIBERTY 72: GIRARD — Girard led 39-35 at halftime and pulled away in the second half to get the win over Liberty in All-American Conference Blue Tier action.
Girard (10-9, 6-5) were led by Austin Clausell with 23 points and five assists. Christian Graziano had 16 points and nine rebounds. David Blackmon finished with 16 and Anthony Backus had 14.
Liberty (3-12, 2-9) has now lost five-straight games. The Leopards were led by Dra Rushton with 33 points, four steals and three assists. Ezell Brown had 18 points while David Sewell pulled down seven rebounds.
Girard outrebounded Liberty, 32-25, in the game.
¯ NEWTON FALLS 73, CAMPBELL 65: NEWTON FALLS — Newton Falls pulled away from the Red Devils in a high-scoring fourth quarter of an AAC, Blue Tier shootout.
The Tigers outscored Cambpell, 31-23, in the final eight minutes. Newton Falls’ Preston Rapczak scored 12 of his game-high 20 points in the fourth quarter, and Adam Honeycutt (15 points) and Christopher Rankin (11 points) each scored eight in the frame.
The Tigers led by eight at halftime, but the Red Devils charged back with a 16-8 advantage in the fouth quarter.
Rayshawn HIcks and Eric Van Cobb each scored a team-high 13 for Campbell.
¯ BRISTOL 78, BROOKFIELD 40: BRISTOLVILLE — Bristol led 49-17 at halftime in a win over Brookfield as Brookfield still searches for its first win.
Bristol (15-2) has now won 10-straight games. The Panthers were led by Gage Elza with 20 points, Danny Lamosek with 16 points and Bobby Evan with 10 points.
Brookfield (0-16) was led by Conner Stevens with 18 points and Gage Emery with six points.
¯ CHALKER 52, LORDSTOWN 29: LORDSTOWN — The Chalker defense kicked in after the first quarter, holding Lordstown to 10 points in the final three quarters of the Northeastern Athletic Conference game. The Wildcats led 21-19 after the first quarter, then led 28-22 at halftime and 40-28 after three quarters.
Jake Bee led Chalker (3-15, 3-10) which snapped a nine-game losing streak. Trystan Mollohan added nine points and Kyle Caracanas and Aidan Ricks added eight apiece.
Lordstown (3-14, 1-12) has lost five in a row and was led offensively by Evans and Milhoan who scored 11 points each.
¯ AUSTINTOWN FITCH 75, LAKESIDE 48: ASHTABULA — Austintown Fitch outscored Lakeside, 44-26, in the second half to get a win in All-American Conference Red Tier play.
Austintown Fitch (8-8, 5-5) was led by Randy Smith with 13 points and AJ Green with 10 points.
Lakeside couldn’t get it going in the second half but were led by Cortez Vaughn with 17 points overall and Ceon Howell with 15 points.
Fitch hit twice as many shots as Lakeside in the win.
¯ ST. THOMAS AQUINAS 49, URSULINE 46: LOUISVILLE — Ursuline slipped to 4-14 on the season with a close loss at St. Thomas Aquinas. The Irish led 24-21 at halftime and 34-33 after three quarters.
Luke Pipala led Ursuline with 11 points, Devin Keevey scored nine and Travis Easterley added eight.
¯ SEBRING 59, MINERAL RIDGE 54: SEBRING — Mineral Ridge fell behind 22-15 at the end of the first quarter and spent the rest of the game trying to catch up in the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference game.
The Rams (7-14, 4-10) trailed 38-30 at halftime and 49-41 after three quarters.
Jordan Zupko scored 21 points to lead Ridge, Austin Governor scored 14 and Koby Zupko added 10.
¯ WESTERN RESERVE 86, JACKSON-MILTON 26: BERLIN CENTER — Western Reserve led 50-4 at halftime in a large win against Jackson-Milton at home in Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference play.
Western Reserve (10-6, 9-4) was led by Kade Hilles with 18 points and four assists, Dom Velasquez with 14 points, 10 rebounds and four assists and Ryan Demsky with five assists with four steals.
Jackson-Milton (1-17, 0-13) has now lost 15-straight games. The Blue Jays were led by Guy Costello with eight points and Cole Grope with four points.
¯ WINDHAM 49, GARFIELD 45: WINDHAM — Garfield led Windham 27-20 at halftime and led 40-32 after three quarters. Windham out scored the G-Men, 17-5, in the fourth quarter to get the win.
Windham (16-2) has now won eight-straight games. The Bombers were led by Mason Angle with 30 points and 13 rebounds. Blaze Angle had five steals in the win.
Garfield (7-10) was led by Brown with 19 points while Smith had 10 points, seven rebounds and three assists.
Windham recorded 15 steals to Garfield’s seven.
¯ GRAND VALLEY 67, CONNEAUT 63: ORWELL — Grand Valley needed overtime to get a much-needed win over Conneaut in non-conference play.
Grand Valley (9-8) was led by Jude Cunningham with 34 points on 13 made shots and eight free throws. Michael McGovern also added 17 points for the Mustangs.
Conneaut was led by Nathan Skwera with 19 points and Kyle Woods with 11 points.
Conneaut lost despite hitting eight threes to Grand Valley’s one.
¯ ST. THOMAS AQUINAS 58, JOHN F. KENNEDY 38: WARREN — St. Thomas Aquinas led at halftime, 35-17, and got the win over John F. Kennedy in North Coast League White Divison play.
Aquinas was led by Hayley Rorie with 21 points and Ktie Hiestand with 20 points in the win.
Kennedy (8-10, 2-4) was led by Danielle Bradley with 14 points with four 3-pointers. Kaitlyn Marlatt grabbed three rebounds while Caitlyn Condoleon dished three assists.
