Liberty routs Grand Valley; Brookfield eliminated
¯ LIBERTY 86, GRAND VALLEY 55: ORWELL — Tenth-seeded Liberty upset No. 7 Grand Valley in impressive fashion, led by Dra Rushton’s 25 points.
Rushton was one of 10 players to score in the game, with Ezell Brown adding 13 and Kevin Code and Travis Myers each putting in 11. The Leopards shot 62 percent (33 of 53) for the game and held a 35-25 rebounding advantage.
Liberty (7-16), which plays at second-seeded Champion on Friday, led 45-31 at halftime and put the game out of reach with a 21-12 advantage in the third quarter.
Jude Cunningham and Jerone Evans each scored a team-high 13 for the Mustangs (11-12).
¯ CARDINAL 69, BROOKFIELD 68: MIDDLEFIELD — Fifth-seeded Cardinal had to rally in the fourth quarter to avoid an upset by No. 12 Brookfield.
Robbie Bruncak and Robbie Mulh each scored 18 points to pace the Huskies, who trailed 56-53 entering the fourth quarter. Matt Carney added 14 for Cardinal, which plays at Garfield on Friday.
The Warriors (4-19) took a 24-17 lead, then gave it up and trailed 38-31 at halftime. They rallied for a 25-15 edge in the third to take a three-point lead into the final eight minutes. Conner Stevens and Nate Smooth each tied for a game-high 20 points. Noah Harnett scored 11.
