Fitch girls, boys 2nd at sectional

BOARDMAN — Austintown Fitch’s boys and girls teams both advanced with runner-up finishes, and Howland senior Jessica Guesman led all girls bowlers with a 684 series to highlight the Division I sectional bowling tournament Sunday at Boardman Lanes.

Guesman rolled games of 247, 228 and 209 to top the girls’ field by 78 pins. She earned one of three individual spots in the district tournament, which is scheduled Sunday at Wedgewood Lanes in Austintown.

Warren G. Harding sophomore Zoey Schoolcraft grabbed the third qualifying spot for bowlers who were not on district qualifying teams. Schoolcraft rolled a 574 to finish seventh overall. Tyahana Elder of Twinsburg also qualified as an individual.

The boys individual qualifiers are Kaleb East of Twinsburg, who had the best series of the day, 748. Boardman senior Ben Burkey rolled a 663, good for fourth overall, and Harding junior Shon Moore also advanced with a 649, good for eighth-best.

The Fitch boys and girls both trailed sectional champion Stow-Munroe Falls.

The Falcon boys were led by senior Mitch Desiato (691, second overall) and junior Dom Veltri (655, seventh). They also got a 14th-place finish from Kevin Howard and a 19th from Seth Welch.

Senior Erin Harper (578, fifth) and junior Samantha Learn (556, ninth) led the Fitch girls. They were supported by Rachel Hoffman in 20th and Renee Seebacher in 25th.
