Fitch boys, girls bowling advance

Austintown Fitch’s boys and girls bowling teams both moved on to the state tournament, qualifying Sunday in the Division I district competition at Wedgewood Lanes.

The Fitch boys finished second to Wadsworth, while the Falcon girls grabbed the fifth of six qualifying spots.

Howland’s Jessica Guesman qualified for state as an individual, as did Ben Burkey of Boardman.

Guesman had the seventh-best overall qualifying series, 563. Burkey was eighth-best among boys with a 610. Mitch Desiato led the Fitch effort with a ninth-best 600 series.

The Fitch girls put together a solid team effort posting their best individual Alysa Harris with a 529, which left her tied for 19th among individuals.

Warren G. Harding’s Zoey Schoolcraft missed qualifying as an individual by 17 pins. She rolled a 545, 13th-best overall.
