Tamarkin’s late jumper lifts Howland

¯ HOWLAND 45, AUSTINTOWN FITCH 43: HOWLAND — Howland was down 43-42 with 9 seconds left. Connor Tamarkin drove in and hit a five-foot shot while getting fouled. He made the free throw to make it 45-43. Austintown Fitch failed to score on their last attempt with 1 second to go.

Howland (11-4, 6-2 All-American Conference Red Tier) was led by Connor Tamarkin with 15 points and Samari Dean with nine points.

Fitch (6-8, 3-5) was led by Dylan Beany with 11 points and Chris Brown with two 3-pointers.

¯ MATHEWS 70, ST. JOHN 49: ASHTABULA — Mathews used a good scoring night to get back in the win column over Ashtabula St. John in a non-conference game.

Mathews (8-9) got a great shooting game from Sean McDivitt as he finished with 22 points with four 3-pointers. Tyler Roscoe finished with 13 point with three 3-pointers.

St. John was led by Jon Chambers with 20 points with five 3-pointers. Jacob Artman had 11 points for the Fighting Herald.

Both teams combined for 17 3-pointers in the game.

¯ MINERAL RIDGE 69, BADGER 65: VERNON — Jordan Zupko had 24 points as the Rams got past the Braves.

He was the only double-figure scorer in a game with 60 free-throw attempts.

Mineral Ridge (5-12) was 26 of 39 from the line, while Badger (10-4) was 11 of 21.

The Rams rallied from 36-18 halftime deficit to outscore the Braves 51-29 in the final two quarters.

Logan Popovich paced Badger with 19 points, while Aiden Miller 15.

¯ WESTERN RESERVE 60, JACKSON-MILTON 24: NORTH JACKSON — The Blue Devils outscored the Blue Jays 16-0 after one quarter and 35-5 at halftime to roll in this Mahoning Valley Athletic Conferene game.

Jack Cappabianca led Western Reserve (8-5, 7-3 MVAC) with 10 points, while Guy Costello paced Jackson-Milton with 13 points.

¯ GIRARD 66, LAKESIDE 46: GIRARD — Girard used a good offensive night to get back to .500 with a win over Lakeside in non-conference play.

Girard (8-8) was led by Austin Clausell with 21 points with two 3-pointers while Christian Graziano and Anthony Backus both had 12 points.

Lakeside was led by Rasheem Morgan with 18 points with three 3-pointers and Ceon Howell with nine points.

Girard hit seven threes to Lakeside’s three.

¯ URSULINE 52, YOUNGSTOWN EAST 35: YOUNGSTOWN — Ursuline got in the win column with a road win over Youngstown East.

Ursuline (3-11) was led by RJ Clark with 19 points and Shawn Philips with 15 points.

East (4-9) has now lost eight-straight games. The Golden Bears were led by Larry Ransom with 13 points and Kemon’Dre Mohammad with 11 points.
