McDonald sweeps WR; Kennedy ends skid
¯ McDONALD 52, WESTERN RESERVE 40: BERLIN CENTER — Good balance in the scorebook helped McDonald complete a season sweep of Western Reserve in the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference.
Olivia Perry scored 16 points Molly Howard had 15 and Sophia Costantino added 13 for McDonald (11-4, 8-3). Howard scored seven of her points in the first quarter as the visitors jumped out to an 18-10 lead. Fourteen of Perry’s points came in the first half when McDonald led 31-20.
Western Reserve (13-4, 9-3) had a five-game winning streak snapped. Laura Sigworth scored 11 points, Alexis Hughes had nine and Alyssa Serensky eight.
¯ JOHN F. KENNEDY 48, FUCHS MIZRACHI 21: WARREN — The Eagles snapped a five-game losing streak with the easy victory. Kennedy (6-9) led 15-2 after one quarter, 24-14 at halftime and 36-16 after three.
Caitlyn Condoleon led the Eagles with 20 points, Danielle Bradley added 11, Naomi Herman grabbed 12 rebounds and DeAsha Gaston had eight.
¯ CHALKER 38, MAPLEWOOD 22: SOUTHINGTON — Chalker’s defense stepped up with an 11-0 third quarter to break open a game in which the Wildcats held a 19-15 halftime lead.
Chalker (8-6, 4-5 Northeastern Athletic Conference) was led by Courtney Warnick with 15 oints and Kahtrina Hromada with nine. Shae Keeley led the rebounding effort with nine.
Maplewood (4-11, 2-7) got 10 points from Heidi Stiffler.
¯ HUBBARD 41, LAKESIDE 37: HUBBARD — The Eagles swept the season series against All-American Conference White Tier opponent Lakeside with the win.
Jackie Atler scored 11 points to lead Hubbard (4-12, 3-6).
¯ MATHEWS 39, WINDHAM 34: WINDHAM — A big second half — including a great defensive fourth quarter — pushed Mathews past the Bombers in a NAC tilt.
Cara Bornemiss played a key role with two big 3-pointers in the third quarter. Carlie Pratt paced the Mustangs, who outscored Windham, 22-15, in the second half, with a game-high 18, and Bornemiss added 10. Mathews (7-7, 5-4) trailed, 29-28, entering the fourth frame, but they held an 11-5 edge in the final eight minutes.
Mariah Walker paced a balanced Windham attack with eight points. The Bombers led after each of the three quarters.
¯ BRISTOL 46, GRAND VALLEY 33: BRISTOLVILLE — Bristol pulled away in the fourth quarter of a Northeastern Athletic Conference clash with the Mustangs.
The Panthers (11-4, 8-2) led by five entering the quarter, and outscored Grand Valley, 16-8, to seal the victory. Both Brenna Rimer and Brittany Mooney tied for a game-high 18 points. The duo made all five of Bristol’s 3-pointers (three for Mooney, two for Rimer).
Abby Triskett paced the Mustangs (5-10, 4-6) with 13. Genesis Fultz added 10.
¯ JACKSON-MILTON 49, MINERAL RIDGE 34: NORTH JACKSON — Jackson-Milton moved to 15-0 with a steady performance against Mineral Ridge in a Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference matchup.
The Blue Jays (15-0, 11-0) held Mineral Ridge to just 11 first-half points, taking a 28-11 edge at the break. Jackson-Milton’s Abby Spalding scored a team-high 14, while Michaeina Terrranova put in 13.
Alexa Harkins poured in a game-high 20 for Mineral Ridge (7-9, 4-7).
